As we all know, Chinese people like eating noodles. In China, few people have not eaten noodles. Different regions have different noodles with their own characteristics. Nowadays, there are more than 500 types of noodles in China.
However, not only Chinese like eating noodles, Italians love to eat Pasta, Japanese like to eat Hand-Pulled Noodle, the Korean people love to eat Korean cold noodles. It’s said that noodles in Europe was introduced from China by Marco Polo, and Japan hand-pulled noodle was introduced from China by the Ambassador in Tang Dynasty.
In the beginning, people only ate the fruit from trees. In the end of Warring State Period, it’s possible to make noodles until Gong Shuban invented stone grinding device, grains, and wheat. After having flour and rice noodles, how can make it into a delicious food is another difficulty faced with all people.
In term of the origin of noodles, the Italians say that it is invented by them, so do people in Arab. In China, there are written records to prove that noodles are invented by Chinese people, while there are murals in Italy as evidence. However, a group of strip materials was founded in the Historic Site of Qinghai province by Chinese archaeologists in 2002, which is proved to be the noodles made of flour. This bowl of noodles won the reputation of noodle inventor for Chinese people.
This production of noodles in simple, but the taste is delicious. What’s more, some of them are deducted into stories with humanistic connotation. Take the longevity noodles roe example. It’s said that courtiers were talking something about longevity in the Han Dynasty, and some said that people with a long face can live for a long time, while some said that people with a long earlobe can have longevity. The discussion between courtiers has spread to regions in the country, and the face was misunderstood with noodle, after that people began to eat noodles on their birthday in order to pray for longevity. The longer the noodles, the longevity will be.
According to this legend, any food will not exist all of a sudden, but it is created by a nation through long time survival. The common degree of a snack is related to economic and cultural influence of inventors. Once a snack become a habit or tradition in a region, it will turns into an important part of nostalgia and national sentiment, as well as the vital content of regional and national cultural.
